God’s Power to Reveal the Future

God declares His ability to reveal future events:

“Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.”
Isaiah 42:9

He alone can declare “the end from the beginning.”

“I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,
Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done.”
Isaiah 46:9–10

Fulfilled prophecy therefore becomes a powerful testimony to the divine inspiration of the Bible.

Prophecies and Their Fulfillment

1. Babylon – The Glory That Fell

God’s Prediction:

“And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.
It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there.”
Isaiah 13:19–20

Note:
Read also Jeremiah 51:26, 37.
Today, the site of ancient Babylon lies in ruins—exactly as God said it would be.

2. Nineveh – The Proud City Made Desolate

God’s Prediction:

“And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a desolation, and dry like a wilderness….
This is the rejoicing city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me:
how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and wag his hand.”
Zephaniah 2:13, 15

Note:
Nineveh was a massive city—seven and a half miles around, with walls enclosing 1,640 acres of land. Excavations have uncovered parts of the palaces of Sennacherib and Ashurbanipal, and a clay prism from Sennacherib names fifteen gates in its walls. Those walls stood about sixty feet high and forty feet thick.
Yet, as God foretold, Nineveh became a desolation.

3. Egypt – Once Great, Never Again a World Power

God’s Prediction:

“It shall be the basest of the kingdoms; neither shall it exalt itself any more above the nations: for I will diminish them, that they shall no more rule over the nations.”
Ezekiel 29:15

Note:
Read also Ezekiel 30:4, 12, 13.
Egypt once led the world in arts, science, and religion, but God declared it would never again rise to world power.
History has confirmed that prophecy with striking accuracy.

4. Tyre – The City Scraped Bare

God’s Prediction:

“And they shall make a spoil of thy riches, and make a prey of thy merchandise: and they shall break down thy walls, and destroy thy pleasant houses:
and they shall lay thy stones and thy timber and thy dust in the midst of the water.
And I will cause the noise of thy songs to cease; and the sound of thy harps shall be no more heard.
And I will make thee like the top of a rock: thou shalt be a place to spread nets upon;
thou shalt be built no more: for I the LORD have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.”
Ezekiel 26:12–14

Note:
Tyre was a powerful city of merchants, trading throughout the Mediterranean and beyond. Its wealth brought it into many wars.

  • Nebuchadnezzar besieged and destroyed mainland Tyre after thirteen years but failed to conquer the island city.
  • Tyre continued as a semi-independent state under Babylonian oversight, paying regular tribute.
  • Later, Alexander the Great fulfilled Ezekiel’s prophecy: using debris from the old mainland city, he built a causeway to the island, marched his army across, and destroyed it.
The stones, timber, and dust of Tyre were literally thrown “in the midst of the water.”
  • The city was rebuilt but never regained its former glory.
  • In A.D. 1291, it was almost completely destroyed by the Saracens.

Today, only a small fishing village remains on part of the island and the ancient causeway—now nearly half a mile wide. Some ruins of old Tyre can still be seen beneath the water, and fishermen still spread their nets upon its rocks—just as the Lord foretold.

5. Modern Europe – Never to Unite

God’s Prediction:

“And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men:
but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.”
Daniel 2:43

Note:
In a dream given to Nebuchadnezzar, God revealed the future of the world’s empires (see Daniel 2:31–45).
The great image in the vision represented successive world powers:

Just as iron and clay cannot mix, so the nations of Europe will never unite politically.
Throughout history, leaders such as Charlemagne, Louis XIV, Napoleon, Kaiser Wilhelm, and Hitler have tried to unite Europe—and all have failed.
Why? Because God said, “They shall not cleave one to another.”

(Also note that as each metal decreases in value, the military strength of the succeeding empires increases.)

Conclusion

We are living in the final days of earth’s history.
Let us heed the counsel of Scripture:

“Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.”
1 Corinthians 10:11

“And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said,
Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.”
2 Chronicles 20:20 (last part)
